This Mathematics unit addresses the concept of time for young learners. It focuses on the days of the week, connecting familiar events to particular days and sequencing events in time order.

It consists of 4 lessons of approximately 30 minutes duration.

The sequence of lessons and suggested time framesย should be regarded as a guide only; teachers should pace lessons in accordance with the individual learning needs of their class.

An assessment task for monitoring student understanding of the unit objectives is included.

### Overview

#### Objectives

• To learn the days of the week in the correct order.
• To know and identify the days of the week and link specific days to familiar events.
• To choose events and actions that make connections with studentsโ everyday family routines.
• To sequence familiar events in time order.

#### Preparing for Learning

Prior to commencing the unit, create a time display in your classroom. Display teaching resources in the classroom that will stimulate the studentsโ interest and assist in their learning. Some of the resources which accompany this unit plan will need to be prepared prior to teaching. For this reason, it is advised that teachers browse through all lessons before commencing the unit.

A 30 minute lesson in which students will know and identify the days of the week and link specific days to familiar events.

A 30 minute lesson in which students will choose events and actions that make connections with studentsโ everyday family routines.

#### How Long is This Going to Take?

A 30 minute lesson in which students will sequence familiar events in time order.

##### Lesson 5 (Assessment)

An assessment task in which students will identify the days of the week, make connections with specific days and sequence familiar activities in time order.
