# Ten in the Bed - Counting Activity

A fun, hands-on number rhyme activity to help students sequence numbers and count forward and backward from 1โ10.

Use this resource in your math classroom when learning to count forward and backward from 0โ10 and when working on one-to-one correspondence when counting. This activity is great to use when singing the number rhyme ‘Ten in the Bed’.

This resource includes:

• 1 x bed with dotted cut lines
• 1 x bed without dotted cut lines
• 1 x strip of teddies from 1 to 10
• 10 x individual teddies numbered from 1 to 10.

This resource can be used in the following ways:

Number Sliderย

• Print the bed with the dotted cut lines and the outlined strip of bears.
• Cut out the outlined strip of bears, including the ‘pull me’ tab.
• Laminate the bed and the strip of teddies.
• Cut along the dotted lines on the bed.
• Feed the strip of bears through the slot on the right-hand side of the bed. Make sure the bears go under the blanket!
• As the student sings the number rhyme, have them pull the tab so that the bears slide off the bed, one by one, from 10 to 0.

Magnet Bears

• Print the bed without the dotted cut lines onto cardstock.
• Print the individual bears onto cardstock, then cut and laminate.
• Attach a small magnet to the back of each bear.
• Display the bed on a whiteboard and place the bears on the bed.
• As the student sings the number rhyme, have them remove the bears from the bed, one at a time, from 10 to 0.

One-to-One Correspondence

• Print the bed without the dotted cut lines and the individual bears.
• Cut out each bear.
• Ask the students to put a specific number of bears in the bed.
• Alternately, have a stack of digit cards that students flip over to determine the number of bears to place in the bed.

This activity is great to use in a math center or your guided math group.

#### Common Core Curriculum alignment

• CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.A.3

Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).

• CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.B.4

Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality.

• CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.B.4.A

When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.

• CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.B.4.B

Understand that the last number name said tells the number of objects counted. The number of objects is the same regardless of their arrangement or the order in which they were counted.

• CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.B.5

Count to answer "how many?" questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1-20, count out that many objects.
