This Force, Motion, & Energy science unit investigates contact and non-contact forces. Demonstrations and experimental procedures are explored with particular attention given to the scientific method.

It consists of 7 lessons of approximately 60 minutes duration.

The sequence of lessons and suggested time frames should be regarded as a guide only; teachers should pace lessons in accordance with the individual learning needs of their class.

A knowledge check for monitoring student understanding of the unit objectives is included and will require an additional lesson.

Teachers are encouraged to collect samples of studentsโ work throughout the unit to add to a learning portfolio. These can also be used to assess studentsโ understanding of the unit objectives.

#### Opposites Attract - Understanding the Non-contact Force of Magnetism

A 60-minute lesson in which the students investigate magnetism and the properties of its associated force.

#### There's a Fraction Too Much Friction - Science Investigation

A 60-minute lesson in which the students investigate how moving objects in different ways affects the strength of friction force.

#### Throwing, Dropping, Bouncing, Rolling - Science Investigation

A 60-minute lesson in which the students investigate the forces involved in throwing, dropping, bouncing, and rolling, and how they affect an object.

#### Forces Knowledge Check

An assessment task in which students will demonstrate an understanding of contact and non-contact forces.
